We are a development, design, and construction company that will operate in earth's orbit building the future's largest structures.

Currently, we are in development of several robotic platforms that will have the capability to build any type of structure imagined in the most economical way possible.

Design Features

USS has many unique design features that sets our technology a part.

Artificial Gravity

The design of the structure allows for the creation of a variable artificial gravity by spinning the cylinder about its long axis.

This feature will allow for long duration flights without the disabling effects of muscle and bone loss due to zero gravity. Physically and psychologically, the environment will be easier to adapt to than zero gravity.

Large Interior Volume

The interior of the Gaia class vehicle is designed to be reconfigurable within the structure's bulkheads.

A modular panel system is used for the floors and walls within the bulkhead zones. These panels are structural, but in addition they also contain electrical, data, fresh water and wastewater systems.

The panels will also have integrated lighting, heating & cooling system in addition to a variety of sensors that will monitor all life support & safety systems throughout the station.

Radiation Protection

The double wall system of the structure's inner and outer hull is designed with a void between them; there will be a structural space frame system that will span the hulls.

The rest of the interior volume will be filled with water that will act as the radiation shield and also the water reservoir for the station.

Ballistic Protection

The water-filled void of the double wall system will act as the last line of defense for the station to protect against the potential of ballistic penetrations from space debris that are moving at relatively high velocities.

The outer hull will be composed of layers of material that will be several meters thick; this will be the first line of defense for ballistic protection.


Types of Structures

What type of structures could we build?

Habitats

This type of habitat could be used for industrial processes like biomedical research and production or it could be used as a recreational facility that could include hotels, casinos, three dimensional sports and three dimensional performing arts.

This habitat could be an earth observational and monitoring facility or it could be a combination of all of these functions.
This type of habitat could explore our solar system in a completely different way with no time limit.

The solar explorer, like other habitats, will be 100% self sustaining. Everything gets recycled; the facility is a closed loop biosphere. This self sustaining capability will allow us to travel to the furthest reaches of our solar system in safety.
This type of habitat could safely explore Near Earth Objects or venture to the asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter for minerals of all types to be used as building materials or go to the gas giants like Neptune for volatile gases that could be used as fuels.
This type of habitat could be used to carry settlement equipment and settlers to places like our moon, Mars or beyond.

Once the habitat has arrived at its destination it will establish an orbit and then stage the deployment and construction of the settlement while providing a safe orbital facility throughout its duration.
Fuel extracted from space based sources will need to be distributed throughout the solar system to allow the establishment of trade routes for space commerce.

Platforms

The planet orbiting habitat can be configured into any kind of advanced research platform where the research may be too dangerous to perform on earth or require special environmental conditions:

  • Energy Research
  • Hi-energy physics
  • Biological and genetic research
The advantage of space based research is safety, terrestrial assets, both human and material, are kept safe.
The main advantage of the planet orbiting habitat is its ability to create a variable gravity. Bio-medical research and manufacturing could use this benefit of the variable gravity in their processes; this will result in products that are not currently available.
Our solar system is extremely rich in natural resources from minerals and metals to gases. While the moon is an obvious first target, the asteroid belt and the gas giants represent the mother lode.

The solar exploring habitat can be configured for long term exploration, mining, and processing. The finished product can be transported to a looping space ferry for transport back to earth for manufacturing.
USS intends to build manufacturing platforms in Low Earth Orbit (LEO) to product unique products that can only be made in space due to the microgravity environment. These products will be initially pharmaceuticals and nanomaterials.

Eventually once in-situ materials from space are available USS will build processing and manufacturing platforms in space for a wide variety of products for in space use and for use on Earth.

... and Beyond

Today's space transportation system uses a point to point or "Out and Back" approach when traveling to a destination like the moon. This practice requires a lot of energy for acceleration and breaking that once used is forever lost.

The solar exploring habitat could be launched into a continuous elliptical orbit between any two objects. This will result in the conservation of the launch energy required, with only minor corrections required occasionally. The continuously looping space ferry system would be met by space taxis that would load and unload cargo and passengers at each destination.
Earth's climate is dramatically changing today due to manmade and natural processes. These changes in our planets climate will have a profound effect on billions of people who live next to water as sea levels rise due to the melting of the polar caps and other bodies of ice worldwide.

Monitoring and potentially manipulating our climate is of paramount importance and requires immediate action to avert trillions of dollars of losses and human suffering.
A smaller version of the solar exploring habitat can be produced and used as a rescue vehicle. One or more of them could remain in orbit near occupied areas to provide emergency response to ship repair, emergency evacuation, emergency rescue, medical response.
